What Is Mixing?
Learn about what a professional can do for you.
Mixing is a process of combining all of the stem files/individual parts of a song into a single piece of audio. A trained engineer can mix your song and change the perception of your music from a demo or rough recording to a radio ready, professional piece of music. A good mix engineer will bring clarity, depth, width, dimension, punch and much more to your songs. More importantly, the engineer helps you compete on a sonic level with other professionally mixed/mastered material from record labels that listeners have become accustomed to.
Why Not Mix It Yourself?
Pros and Cons
Mixing your own music can work but more often than not you’ll run into ceilings as far as quality. One of the main reasons to work with a professional mix engineer is for their expertise and experience. It's a very creative and technical exercise that requires a large understanding of the science of audio.

Beyond the know how and expertise, you need a tuned listening environment to properly perceive the audio as it is rather than how it sounds at your house. There are reasons why studios spend thousands of dollars on professional acoustic treatment, audio gear, and listening environments. When you're trying to get your music to sound its very best, you need the right tools to make a record compete as well as translate across all listening environments. Having a neutral starting place for mixing your songs helps ensure they will translate to headphones, car speakers, and especially at the club.

What Is Mastering?
Learn about what a professional can do for you
Mastering is the final post-production process of taking an audio mix and preparing it for distribution. This preparation in the modern sense can include unifying the sound of a record, maintaining consistency across an album, and making multiple versions of a song in different formats for distribution.
Why Master?
What are the goals of Mastering?
  •  Translation across all systems and media formats and play well across a wide range of systems (laptop speakers, earbuds, car systems, and more).
  •  Meet technical specifications of the each distribution platform (Streaming, CD, Vinyl, Etc.)
  • Compete commercially against similar material in the market on a sonic level.
  •  Satisfy the clients expectations of the finalization of his/her song.
DON'T JUST TAKE OUR WORD FOR IT
Here's What Our Clients Are Saying
"I will NEVER go anywhere else with my music. Kevin and Bradley at Radium add the finishing sauce for every record I make."
Recording Artist
Marty Grimes
Marty Grimes - On The Road (Feat. Price)
Demo
Mixed & Mastered
  •  Edits: All vocals were aligned with corresponding double tracks and all melodic vocal parts were tuned note by note. Headphone bleed, lip smacks, and mic bumps are removed if necessary.
  •  Mix: Brought clarity to the vocals and put them in front, added definition and punch to drums, and gave the instruments depth to accent the foundation of the song.
  • Master: Increased overall loudness by frequency specific compression, EQ, and limiting.  Mastering buss techniques were used to glue every element of the song together.
"WOWWWW!! Sounding AMAZING!! You even got the bass coming through insane!!" "Everything is PERFECT. You crushed it!"
Recording Artist
Darko B!ue
Darko B!ue - Vo!Ces
Demo
Mixed & Mastered
  •  Edits: All vocals were aligned with corresponding double tracks and all melodic vocal parts were tuned note by note. Headphone bleed, lip smacks, excessive breathing, artifacts, and noise was removed.
  •  Mix: Gave the vocals vibe to sit in the track right, added definition and punch to drums.  Set both vocals in the same world as the song instead of feeling detached.
  • Master: Increased depth, width, and atmosphere of full track.  Brought life to track without sacrificing dynamics.  The demo was over-compressed and did not translate, we made it translate across all playback systems.
"The team at Radium is professional, detail oriented, their service is top-notch, they're always on call, and the final product always exceeds my expectations."
TV & Film Composer
Andrew Morgan Smith
Andrew Morgan Smith - You Might Be The Killer
Demo
Mixed & Mastered
  • Edits: Removed dead space, unwanted room tone, and hiss. Cleaned up fades between different parts. Time aligned hits and percussion parts for phase coherency.
  • Mix: Used precision eq to remove boxiness and harshness from instrumentation. Used compression to bring warmth and color to the mix. Brought clarity and definition to the string and horn parts. Used reverb and other spacial effects to give orchestra depth.
  • Master: Specific compression, EQ, and limiting techniques were used to glue every element of the song together, add depth, and width.
"You guys have done more for me in the last 2 months, then most my folks have done for me in the last 2 years!" "Absolutely incredible, EXACTLY the sound I had in my head... Jeesh"
